Hillcrest Enrollment Planning

Committee Update

April 3, 2007

Dear Members of the Hillcrest Community,

Thank you for volunteering to help Hillcrest develop recommendations to present to our State Administrator, Kimberly Statham, for ways that we can solve our near– and long–term enrollment challenges. There were over 50 community members who offered to help with this effort. Although we will look for ways to continue to engage the broader group, twelve have been selected to act as the core committee. Denise Saddler, Executive Director and Kirsten Vital, Chief of Community Accountability/Associate Superintendent will also participate. The committee names are listed below along with their enrollment status and ages of their enrolled children:

• AnnaMae Wilson (redirected)
• Sally Ann Friedman (incoming 2010)
• Jennifer Chapman (middle school, upper grade)
• Mary Ann Piette (middle school, 5th, 3rd)
• Steve Raphael (lower grade K, 2nd)
• Vicki Isip (lower grade 2nd, incoming K)
• Neal Finkelstein (middle school, lower grade, incoming K 2008)
• Teacher (to be determined)

This committee will convene its first meeting on Wednesday, April 4, 2007 from 7pm – 9 pm at Hillcrest School. While this is short notice, we hope that you will appreciate our efforts to resolve short–term questions about 2007–08 enrollment quickly. As you know, there are other parents anxiously waiting to enroll their children in the spots being held at Chabot and Kaiser. The committee will continue to meet to create a sustainable long term solution for enrollment of the incoming class of 2008-09 and beyond.

We appreciate the thoughts and ideas that have been submitted so far and encourage you to continue to share your ideas. These suggestions will be shared with the committee.
