Hillcrest Enrollment Planning
Update from Monday, September 24, 2007 Caucus Meeting
The Long Range Planning Committee met on Wednesday, September 26, 2007, to work on the draft report to the district and discuss the feedback received during the caucus meetings on Monday the 24th. In general, caucuses were extremely appreciative of the work that had gone into the report and of continuing work on it. The LRPC thanks the community for taking the time to review the draft report and to provide feedback.
Last night the LRPC agreed to work on several additions to the report where gaps were identified by the caucuses and clarifications where caucuses identified ambiguities. After that, the LRPC will meet with district staff to fill in some additional information and discuss next steps. Some of the areas where clarification and gap filling will occur are:
- Clarify that the recommendations are in order of preference and not a randomized list in terms of redrawing lines
- Clarify desired timing of adjusting attendance area boundary lines (for 2008)
- Explain more about the census results for upcoming K classes in terms of how many siblings and where incoming Ks are coming from
- Explain why the committee rejected the idea of installing portables and why we have not addressed constructing a new building in this report
- Clarify and reconcile any inconsistencies in best practices section and recommendations re year round school
- Explain K-8 basis of report
- Explore ability to take position on priorities for families that could be redistricted out of Hillcrest (e.g., what priority do siblings have, existing students stay at school)
- Add language on transparency of decisionmaking under recommendation 6
- Clarify recommendation 8 regarding OUSD website and notations of which schools are accepting intra-district transfers so families can fill out options forms with sufficient information
- Explain how the 310 number was derived in recommendation 1
- Explain next steps
