Walkathon & Carnival April 26, 2008

We Have Found the Treasure!

Perfect weather, hardworking kids and parents, the playground teeming with happy families enjoying a fun day…clearly, the Hillcrest Treasure was unearthed on Saturday at the 2008 Walkathon and Carnival, with a great event for the entire Hillcrest community! From the obstacle course to the snow cones to the live music, it was a fantastic day that celebrated the people and school that have brought us all together.

Thank you so much to all of our volunteers: Ms. Rothenberg and the fearless teachers and coaches who cheerfully took a seat in the splash booth; the middle school students who took time away from their own fun to help us out; the many parents who set up, manned the booths and BBQs, punched walkers' tickets, and helped clean up. We also thank our dedicated Walkathon Committee for helping to make everything happen: Amy Ahlers, Jennifer Bjork, Sheryl Bregman, Jennifer Chapman, Lin Cheyer, Julie Fleming, Jan Gillikin, Laura Grady, Sarah Holliman, Caryn Kramer, Aarti Kohli, Candes Lecocq, Wendy Malecek, Monica Marcone, Barb Murrer, Tracy Robertson-Carter, Nancy Scanlon, Jill Tanner, Liz Varon, and Melissa Zaharias.

Thank you to our sponsors, whose early commitment helped ensure the success of the 2008 Walkathon.

Sincerely,
Sally Fitzhugh and Donna Hanson, Walkathon Co-Chairs

Walkathon 2008 Results

Congratulations Hillcrest students on your major achievement. In total, walkathon participants logged 6,048 laps around the school on Saturday, April 26th. That's the equivalent of 1,482 miles! Will Fitzhugh and Jackson Coldiron made it around an amazing 73 laps. Collin Weld, Jacob Diamond and Connor Holliman also put in a tremendous effort, lapping the school 62 times, 60 times and 56 times, respectively.

Our thanks go out to all the students who submitted their pledges. Those funds really make a big difference for Hillcrest. Seventeen students raised $500 or more dollars each. Eli Finder raised the most money with his $800 in pledges. Jack Hanson raised $665 and Jake Kasokoff raised $610. The Countryman kids, Albert and Halle, earned honorable mention for raising $577 and $576, respectively. Wow!

We are still collecting pledges (54 students who signed in have not yet turned in their pledges), so we'll wait to report the Walkathon fundraising results until the end of the month. If you are holding onto your pledges, please turn them into the Walkathon Folder in the front office. No contribution is too small, we're hoping for everyone's participation. Checks should be made out to Hillcrest PTA.

In the meantime, let's recognize our Grand Prize Getaway participants. A record high of 60 students will "getaway" on Wednesday, May 28th. Laura Grady will contact each participant with the details. See the complete list of participants as well as a list of our 2008 pledge leaders on display in the front hallway.
