As always, there will be fun and delicious food, and, most importantly, a great silent and live auction full of wonderful items, trips and experiences to bid on. Hillcrest families should have received an invitation in the mail by now. You may drop your rsvp and check at the office or order your tickets online now!
What Is the Hillcrest Benefit?
In case you're new to Hillcrest – the Annual Benefit and Auction, organized by Hillcrest's PTA, is our most significant fundraising event of the year. The proceeds fund music, art, language, science and physical education programs the Oakland Unified School District cannot support due to budgetary constraints. Benefit proceeds also fund playground structures and various other school needs. Hillcrest children of every grade level benefit! And if that's not enough - it is also a fun evening with dinner and dancing, and a silent and live auction with really great items to bid on, including wonderful vacations and unique experiences.
How Can You Help?
Read the weekly update for the most current info. In order for us to raise the money we need for the school programs listed above, every Hillcrest family is encouraged to contribute something to the Benefit and Auction. Donations from families in the past have included tickets to sporting events, a stay at a vacation home or time share, frequent flyer miles, dinner parties, autographed sports memorabilia, a backstage tour at Letterman Digital Arts Center on the LucasFilms campus, jewelry, and gift certificates for restaurants, clothes, art, other items and/or services. These are only a few examples. Anything of value can be donated.
How Can the Students Contribute?
In addition to family donations, each middle school student is asked to make a donation (e.g., babysitting or dog walking services), and each class is asked to make two donations: a Class Art Project and a Class Basket. The Class Art Project can be a single large item (such as a painting or a tile table), or can be multiple small items such as coasters or greeting cards. The Class Basket donation is a basket or collection of small (under $10) items relating to a theme. Some of last year's themes included chocolate, sports and green products. Your class Auction Donation Coordinator will contact you about each of these items in the coming weeks.
We'll be telling you much more soon, but for now, mark your calendar and start thinking about ideas for your donation. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer to help the Benefit Committee, please contact me. Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me!
Sincerely,
Kim Thompson
