Co-ed Flag Football

Sept. 12, 2005

Dear Hillcrest middle school athletes and families:

The flag football season is here. We will continue to participate in the Middle School Sports League which includes eleven private East Bay schools. Our goal is to have a full roster of girls and boys participating on the Hillcrest co-ed team. Flag football is a great way to enhance friendships, encourage team building and interact with other middle school students.

Coach: Kevin Flanagan. He is a graduate of Hillcrest and St. Joseph’s High School, and currently attends Diablo Valley College. Kevin and his family live in the Hillcrest neighborhood. He has volunteered his time to assist various Hillcrest coaches over the last two years. Kevin can be reached at 393-6801.

Practice: Held twice a week, on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday, depending on what day there isn’t a game, from 3:45 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Foster school, 2850 West St. The
school is now only for special education and the field isn't being used. Practice is mandatory, so if your child has other obligations during these times, she/he should not participate. Practice is an important part of the sports program, so make every effort to have your child participate on time, every week.

Games: Hillcrest’s home field is Foster school. See the schedule for game dates.

Registration fee: $35 payable to Hillcrest PTA. Fees are applied to referee, league costs and facility charges. A one-time annual $20 CASH ONLY uniform deposit is required. If students participate in basketball (winter) and volleyball (spring), this same uniform deposit will apply. Deposits will be refunded at the end of the school year, (or the applicable season) with the return of your child’s uniform.

Driver coordinator: The team needs a coordinator to organize drivers for games. Electronic mail makes this job very manageable. Also, all families are encouraged to be available to drive to at least two games.

Paperwork: Complete and return to Nikki Stansbury (Ms. Massey’s class):
1. Team participation form
2. Check payable to Hillcrest PTA - $35
3. Cash uniform deposit - $ 20
4. Middle School Sports League Guidelines must be completed in order to participate.

Thank you and GO CARDINALS,

Kenn Stansbury
