Middle School Community Service Details

Goals & Expectations:  Every Middle School student will have the opportunity to connect and feel ownership of their school through their service to the younger students, and the Hillcrest community as a whole, by completing a minimum of 4 hours of service per marking period, or 12 hours per semester.

Responsibility:  Each student is responsible for maintaining a log of their service with adult signatures verifying the hours of service.  Students must present a signed log at the end of each marking period.

Parent Support:  Volunteer grade level coordinators help students find service activities that fit their schedule and that they find interesting and fulfilling, as well as keep a record of class service hours.
6th Grade:  Darcy Brown-Martin      7th Grade:  Donna Summerville<       8th Grade:  Monica Marcone

School Service Activities: Listed in the Table of Community Service Activities below are a few examples of possible service activities at Hillcrest.  Activities are focused in three areas:

  • Helping Younger Students (e.g. tutoring, lunch aides, PTA babysitters)
  • Making the School a Better Place For All (e.g. safety patrol, green team, recycling mentors)
  • Raising Money for the Middle School (e.g. Pizza Friday, Pumpkin Patch).
Additional activities are posted on the Community Service bulletin board in the main hallway and communicated by the grade level coordinators.  Students with additional ideas for service activities should make a proposal to their grade level coordinator.
