English: Read Chapter 6 of Homeless Bird. Take notes for discussion. Look for examples of metaphors & similes. Due Thursday, 2-10-11.
Spelling/Vocabulary: Word list for the week of 2-7-11, with class-generated definitions:
bazaar, n: a marketplace or area of shops.
elegance, n: refined grace; dignified manner.
gawky, adj: awkward or clumsy; ungainly.
insolent, adj: boldly disrespectful; rude or insulting.
pilgrimage, n: a journey to a shrine or holy place.
privileged, adj: having or enjoying benefits.
scandalized, v: shocked or offended by improper conduct.
shrewd, adj: clever or sharp in practical affairs; astute.
triumphant, adj: successful or victorious.
veranda, n: a roofed porch.

Tuesday, 2-8-11: alphabetize list, syllables, accent marks
Wednesday, 2-9-11: Definitions & parts of speech for each word. (We will agree on class definitions.)
Thursday, 2-10-11: Write a sentence for each word.
Friday, 2-11-11: Write each word 3X; spelling/vocabulary test.
