Wednesday, 2-2-11 Homework

English: Read Chapter 2 of Homeless Bird. Take notes, choose 3 quotes & explain their significance. Due Thursday, 2-3-11.

Spelling/Vocabulary: Word list for the week of 1-31-11, with classroom definitions:

auspicious, adj: favorable or promising
cunning, adj: skillful in deception; sly or crafty
defied, v: challenged the power; resisted or opposed boldly
dowry, n: the property a woman brings to her husband at marriage
embroider, v: to make a design on fabric with needlework
garland, n: a wreath or woven chain of flowers
procession, n: the act of moving along in a formal way
respectable, adj: worthy of esteem; proper
shuddered, v: shook or trembled from fear or disgust
sulky, adj: gloomy, dismal or sullen

Due dates for Spelling/Vocabulary homework:
Tuesday, 2-1-11: alphabetize list, break into syllables, note accent marks.
Wednesday, 2-2-11: definitions & parts of speech. (We will generate and agree upon definitions as a class.)
Thursday, 2-3-11: Write a sentence using each word.
Friday, 2-4-11: Write each word 3X; spelling & vocabulary test on 2-4-11.
