History:
Chpt. 16 test is 3/31.

Language Arts:
No Reading homework.

Illustrate two images with captions of Hong and Chen during their journey and/or stay in Chengdu.
This is worth 20 points and is due 4/2.

Spelling and Vocabulary:

*Alphetebize, syllables, parts of speech, accent marks, and sentences are due Thursday, 4/1.

Words written three times paper is due Friday, 4/2.
Test is on Friday, 4/2.

Spelling and Vocabulary
1.transluscent -permitting and diffusing light so that objects beyond cannot be seen clearly.

2. assuage -to lessen the intensity of (something that pains or distresses)

3. hodgepodge -a heterogeneous mixture (jumble)

4. grandiose -characterized by affectation of grandeur or splendor or by absurd exaggeration; impressive because of uncommon largeness, scope or grandeur

5. discontented -lack of being contented

6. frivolous -of little weight or importance; lacking in seriousness

7. gawked -to have gaped or stared

8. ration -a food allowance for one day

9. cask -a barrel-shaped vessel of staves, headings and hoops usually for liquids

10. tyranny -a government in which absolute power is vested in a single ruler; oppressive power exerted by government

12. didi -Chinese term for younger brother

*Newspaper Article Review:
Read and review newspaper articles; write a review with a focus on brothers for 5 points due weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

List the author, audience, location, as well as illustration and caption, if any.
Diagram one compound sentence.
Summarize the article (this can be one or more sentences.)

Write a letter to the editor, with your positive or negative review.

Be ready to discuss your article in class.
