Science 6, 7 Chapter 10 and Group Research Project
Review your notes from the film today on the Mt. Pinatubo eruption. Be prepared to discuss the answers to these questions tomorrow in class:
1. List possible indicators of a volcanic eruuption.
2. State the materials that can be emitted during an eruption.
3. Describe the apparatus and thought processes involved in predicting a volcanic eruption.
4. Explain the possible consequences of either prematurely alerting the public to disaster or of not alerting the public in time.
5. Appreciate the magnitude of destruction of the Mt. Pinatubo eruption.
6. Appreciate the cumulative effect of the volcanic eruption and the typhoon.
Group Research Project:
Research a volcano in the Ring of Fire or in the Hawaiian Islands. Tomorrow, we will be creating a cross section of this volcano with clay and paint. You should be able to demonstrate the relative thickness of the earth's core, mantle and crust; how the volcano was formed; and what type of eruption might occur. Bring with you the graphic organizer with the labeled volcano parts.
